Glossary Metals

You will find in the snaps, rings and buckles pages a choice of several metals :

- Bronze

It is a manganese bronze or "naval" bronze, more specific for use in a humid environment (ship propellers are made with this alloy).

Does not rust, resists frost, wind and salt.

Bronze tends to oxidize naturally and takes on a "verdigris" color.

It is possible to recover its original color by cleaning it with brass restorer.

- Brass

It is an alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc which does not rust and is resistant to frost, wind and salt.

Brass products can oxidize and darken with use (verdigris).

This is not a defect, but a natural characteristic of brass.

It is possible to recover its original color by cleaning it with brass restorer.

- Stainless steel

Stainless steel A4 grade stainless steel is marine grade stainless steel that won't rust, resists frost, wind and salt.

- Chrome Metal

In nickel-plated or chrome-plated steel.

- Zamak

Zamak is an alloy based on zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper with a chrome finish, which gives it good resistance to corrosion, as well as good mechanical strength.
